I don't usually comment exclusively about pure technical aspects of playing classical guitar, but it seems Jorge is in his own category in terms of level of technique and this makes me wonder, what allows him to play like that? Its not simply practicing, but something innate to him. What a gift.

His artificial harmonics are too quiet. Maybe he could learn a thing or two from Marcin Dylla who has very clear artificial harmonics. Also, I think Jorge's technique, though better than Yamashita here for control over tones and clean sound, is still lacking, evident in the number of mistakes he made. Maybe he should practice this challenging piece a few more years before perform it seriously.

In response to the smarty pants who defend such a trivializing tempo on the grounds of the Poco meno at m. 46 and claim that only people who can't play play it slower: 1) That is the old PRINT score that Segovia or the publishers butchered. What Villa wrote was "Un peu moins" at m. 46 quickly followed by A Tempo 1o. at m. 50. 2) Bream already started this trivialization of Villa and had the same comical tempo throughout No. 5. There is no reason to assume this music is comical other than the fact that Bream set the example of playing it that way. 3) This is a study in line. To bring the upper and lower lines into dynamic relief ("en dehors" as Villa writes) and to sustain them as written, without muddying the inner ostinato line...now THAT is difficult, technically and intellectually, and that is why hardly any guitarist does it. By comparison, playing fast is easy. The speed conceals that these lines neither sustain as written nor come out clearly. What we are left with is a kind of comical melody.

To each his own. I love Breams interpretation. I don’t play it that fast, but the way he does sounds better than 90% of the versions I hear. Also, wasn’t it Villa Lobos himself that told Breem that his record of all the etudes was his favorite up to that point? Enough said.

dont think Dvorak would be happy with that. Maybe this symphony is very popular, but on guitar its out of place.

Never judge by a YT video. In all fairness to the comments regarding the tone (timbre), he is playing more on the pont side. This is an artistic choice, but it does help the strings not give out when playing a lot of fff. Also, it sounds like he is using carbon or possibly even titanium trebles. More than anything though, understand that No. 4 is an abrasive etude. A very difficult study played excellently by a guitarist of very high caliber.
